Set up help!!!!

Hi
I really need help setting up my fender mustang. The nick is perfectly straight but i am unable to set my action at a low height with out getting fret buzz. the lowest i am able to have it at is at 0.5mm is this too high? what height should i be aiming for? does the hight of the nut affect anything? i would like it lower but this is as low as i am able to set it. Also i play with a pick and i play in drop tuning alot should it be higher for this? any ideas for what i can do to try and stop the fret buzz?

I also have another question regarding my action, one of my college tutors played my bass and each time he played a note he was getting buzz ( he was pulling rather hard, hes not a bassist and has very limited knowlege on bass guitars) as soon as i got it back i was playing with my fingers and it sounded fine and wasnt buzzing atall ( i dont play hard). so when i have my action low should i not get any buzz atall?

Sorry if you are unable to understand this it is very long winded. I need as much help as i can get. Thanks

I would suggest reading the "All Setup Questions Answered Here" sticky at the top of this forum.

A perfectly straight neck can be had, but generally you need some relief to obtain low action.

And 0.5mm? That is way too low. Make sure you know how to measure action. And the nut affects a lot.

Please read the sticky.
