Setting up a website

Hey I was wondering if anyone with some experience can tell me a good place to go to get a website? I don't mind paying, not sure my exact budget yet though. It's mostly going to be used for me to upload transcriptions and music to.

What I mainly need is an easy to use program or way of actually creating the website as I have really no experience in such things.

All's you need to pay for is a URL if you don't want to use a free service such as Google Pages. You can create the web page on your home computer using free software, then just upload it to the file space provided by the hosting service. Your ISP may already provide a hosting service as well.

You can click on my sig to see an example of a really dirt-simple yet effective web page hosted at my ISP. My only cost is the high speed Internet service that I am already paying for anyway.

Do a Google search for "How to set up a website" and another for "How to write HTML" and you'll have all the info you need and enough material to study to keep you busy for a couple of weeks.

You could probably accomplish much of what you are talking about through a Myspace artist profile page.

Same thing for Facebook pages (although you can't really theme/skin facebook pages) as well as many other services.

Also you can google free web space.

Do you have any html experience, php, css, etc.

I mean there are all sorts of options, what do you want to do, and what is your experience, time, and budget.

If you want to pay, well I do hosting and design for people. I typically just do enough business to allow me to put up sites I want for free. Just a mention.

Seriously though, start with the myspace page, it will help you get started and if you outgrow it, well then get a web page.

I actually use godaddy for all my domain registration these days. VPS for my hosting. I like being able to go to the command prompt level with Linux if I need to. I am also one of those guys though that is perfectly content to use a text editor (including VI or VIM) to html, css, and php files.

If you're looking for a real quote with from talented group artists, programmers and managers, I would be happy to work with you defining exactly what it is you're looking for and how much it would cost. Final costs can range from 300 (simple static HTML site) - 30,000 (like an enterprise level application) depending on the functionality of the site: e-commerce, editable areas, galleries, coding, etc., etc. (I also would've PM'd you but it seems that you have that turned off).

I will also reiterate what others have said in that you can def buy a domain and hosting service for cheap, setup a simple ftp for your files to the hosting service, and put your picture and resume online. But, the web has expanded exponentially since simple HTML days; and I encourage you to get exactly what you want.

I used Google sites before and am very happy with the results.
It's a free web-host, with a simple to use built-in software to build the site.

Just depends on how elaborate you want to get. Google sites is limited to what you can do, but it's more than enough for the inexperienced with no HTML or web building skills.
