Setup advice Needed (SWR head and powered speakers)

You MUST turn the powered speaker on last one off first.

What you are experiencing is entirely normal, that’s why the above method is standard operating procedure. There is no power up/down muting on the SWR’s preamp output.

Here's the back of that SWR amp. The SPEAKERS 1 & 2 outputs are NOT for use with a powered speaker (PA speaker or otherwise). Those are the actual outputs of the amp to send the power from the amp to the unpowered speakers. NEVER use that to hook up to a powered speaker.

He should use either the Preamp Out jack next to the speaker outputs or the Effects Loop "SEND" to his powered speaker(s). Either of those would work. But plugging from the SPEAKER outputs into his powered speaker cabs will very likely melt things if the protection circuits don't kick in soon enough. That would be like plugging the output of the speakers into the input of a powered amp. I've seen that happen, and it's not pretty...smokey, yes...but not pretty, and very expensive.
Please reread my post, I said exactly what you did in fewer words.

Speaker Out is only used to drive an Unpowered speaker,
NEVER to send a signal to a speaker cab that has its own power amp, or to any other gear.

Have fun.
