Setup Woes

Watching the Lakland setup video suggested earlier, before I try doing anything tonight.

I already clamped the tuner and it seems to have fixed the rattling, for now. We'll see how long that lasts.

I'll take a look at the Schallers and Grovers. I've got some extra $$$ that was going to be spent on a setup that fell through, so that's no big deal :p Thanks for the offer though, dedpool1052.

And thanks again everyone!

Extra cash for a setup that already cost you $25!? How much were you gonna spend on that setup. O.o I wouldn't pay more than $30 locally for a setup...but I don't pay for setups anymore. ^_^

The setup was originally $45, plus the cost of strings. It was going to cost me at least $65, plus tax and etc.

They ended up charging me "10 for truss rod adjustment and 15 for bridge adjustment" so sayeth the receipt anyway.

A while ago I asked at another local store and was quoted $70, plus strings. So when this place came recommended by a friend, and their setup price was lower, I thought I found a good little store to go to. :scowl:

And soon you'll be able to do it in your living room for no additional cost.

After watching videos and checking out a few links offered earlier I decided to take a crack at this. I'll have to order some stuff to do a proper setup, but after looking info over I felt I could at least get it in better shape than it was before with what I have now.

I adjusted the truss rod a bit last night and let it sit. I checked it out this morning and the buzz was gone on the E string but still on the A. I adjusted the action on it, and got rid of the buzz.

The D&G strings weren't buzzing, but the action was a little high, so I brought those down a tic as well.

I think with equipment I could do a proper setup, but it's at least playable until then.

Thanks so very much for all the help!

That's great. Remember, most of the stuff you need can be had at Kmart or Home Depot. No reason to pay 3 times more at Stew Mac.
