So I'm thinking of buying one of these to replace the pickup in my current bass and was wondering if anyone has any positive/negative feedback on this pickup?
I have heard that it has too much low end and not enough mids
Anyone care to elaborate?

QP's sound great if you are looking for a much more ballsy P bass sound. One of my favorites next to the Kent Armstrong Vintage Hot P.

I have the Q-Pounder in my P bass, I absolutely love the tone!

I have only noticed one "downside" if that's what you want to call it...These pickups are WAY loud! Much louder than my other stock P basses.

Tonally I don't hear that they have too much low end, or not enough mids...I've found it to be quite balanced, it least in my bass.

In that case, I think you'll really dig this pickup. That's the type of music I generally play, and this pickup really barks through the mix!

I never liked them. I prefer the SPB-2. There is no mids (ya know the frequency that cuts?) in an SPB-3.

Really the only thing you can do is get one and see if it does it for you. If not sell it on TB. Some like it and some hate it but it's still the same pickup. Like I always say, it's a really inexpensive education.

I honestly hate them. To boomy down low and harsh sounding up high, with little in the mid range.

If you want a high output ballsy pickup that sounds great

+1 for the model P Dimarzo. Typically, here I am punting for the pickup I myself use. But that's because it's great and my taste is clearly impeccable. Really- it is quite good at the P+ thing and gets a player a hair or two closer to that good growl thing everybody seems to want while cleaning up for the classic tone with a volume cut. Has mids for days-the right mids, too.

Refer to SD tone chart. They rate the pickup according to the level of low, mids and highs. The QP is hugely scooped, lots of bass lots of highs.
Personally I do not like this pickup at all, the tone sounds artificial to my ears.

Love DiMarzio P for hot output and punch, SD SPB-1 for natural sound, SD Antiquity II for overall tone and bass, Aguilar AG-4P60 for warmth and overall balance.
