SFT & CPD & Angler & BBBOD

Man I thought you were dead :p

My threads bring out all the oldies :D

Got an Angler sorted, just working out the logistics then payment is going across.

finding less interest in other pedals, pretty set on what i have. my cpd goes to all my gigs. sft sits at home alot of the time. angler on loan to a friend on tour. he should be back next week.

i should be replying to that thread on tf to call dibs after you, and after grgyx. :)

As long as we own the same 4 od pedals in about 2 weeks time :D

I'm in the same boat as you, found what I like finally and done.

This is more now what I always wanted but either couldn't find (Angler) or couldn't afford (BBBOD) well wouldn't pay the price tbh.

It's all good in the gritty hood :D

I don't know how I'll ever perform this shootout I mean I'll never have all these pedals.

Oh wait

Here are my thoughts from the BBBOD thread comparing the other 3 to the BBBOD

Ok, so sat at practice last night with the cream pie, bbbod, angler and SFT on a pt nano, it was a very very cool but point less board

Now I never tried the original BBBOD so I can't really comment how close they are. I'm just putting my thoughts out there on the bbbod as a new pedal.

Firstly, to me this is not low gain, not even close, with the nature and gain at zero it sounded very fuzz like to me, don't get me wrong a very nice dark fuzz and a sound I've never really gotten before but a Cream Pie it is not. There is no slightly gritty sound to me. It's a great gain sound with no low end loss and only compresses badly with an active with the gain cranked.

By far of the 3 od pedals the SFT is my fav with the cream pie (bearing in mind I never owned one with my current amp Matamp GT200) that really falls into dirty boost at best with me haing to use the volume to get gritty sounds over the gain.

So if I break it down
BBBOD vs CPD. If you were after a low gain tube with slightly gritty sound the CPD is the only way to go. The BBBOD is like buying a fuzz pedal to get this tone. just not going to happen or go get a Dod 250.
BBBOD vs SFT. SFT is capable of a bigger low end and a zingier high end with everything in between. Gain similar though they both nail bass distortion tones that make me want to groove and not riff like I'm a guitarist (if that makes sense)
BBBOD vs Angler. So different it's not even real, if you like one it's unlikely you'll like the other thou you could have them on the same board to do completely different sounds but they really do cover different ground and have very different characters.

What I'll be doing later today is pitting the BBBOD against my fuzz pedals and seeing where it sits, I do like it tonally but it's not low gain enough for my preferences, I have a chance to buy a Dark Driving which I may go for if that's the same character but capable of lower gain sounds.

Have to say I was very surprised at how much I liked the Angler, really cool pedal.

Will also try doing some clips tonight on my iPad with GarageBand so can't promise anything will sound good.

Over all the SFT is the best overdrive, currently an easy choice, due to the 2 band eq I can just make it sound bigger and phatter than any of the others.

The Angler is great as an overdrive and doesn't mess with the tone like the SFT can when using the eq, I like it a lot more than I thought I would but I do hear the tonal similarities that has caused people like DavidWilson to pick up an SFT so possibly redundant (buts thats never stopped me keeping a pedal before)

CPD, still the best dirty boost I've tried, great clean boost as well. Works alot better with a tube amp allowing for greater combinations of volume and gain instead of just gain on a SS head. Far lower gain than everything else I want to put it in my boost category over overdrive. Think since it's my first ever cpd and it found it's way home to me I'll be buried with it when the true death comes :p

BBBOD, doesn't compare it's not an overdrive or dirty boost or slightly gritty sound. Great sound but not in the running with the others.

So really it's a contest between the SFT and Angler, at the moment the SFT wins, I don't see how the Angler could beat it but I can still see plenty of uses for the Angler.

Might do soundclips if I can be bothered (seems people only care if they can see the pedal in a video even if nothing is actually happening)

Gave this a quick blast over the weekend against the Subdecay Tomato Fuzz, decided that this pedal just sits in the middle of so many sounds I already have and that the Tomato Fuzz was a better fuzz than the Blueberry and the Angler was a better OD than the Blueberry etc etc

Again by no means a bad pedal just depends what you already own to which I own lot :D

So that's that :D
