SFT & CPD & Angler & BBBOD

I have the SFT, got another CPD coming which I'm big advocate of and now kicking around the idea of the other 2 big boy bass od's

Just wondering if there is any point, I love what my SFT does to all my tube amps, it's my go to gain pedal and the CPD will always have a special place in my heart but I do love the whole gritty boost/od sound especially with the amps I own.

So yeah open to opinions, thoughts etc, is this just GAS or boredom or a similar flight of fancy to my fuzz quest which ended up with me keeping what I had 3 years ago?

Swap out for the Angler and BBBOD. They're what I'm using (plus a f*ckOD) and I couldn't be happier. The Angler is unique all on it's own and the BB is dark. It definitely sounds the best and it's great for pushing fuzz pedals. You get very interesting tones, especially with fuzz pedals that have a clean blend.

Just to clarify this is an And And And And thread not an either or, if something is redundant then let me know if they are all different flavours of awesome for achieving different things then let me know and if it's a case of well if you love the sft you'll hate the xxx then let me know :D

I can believe that. In my chain I have an old DOD distortion pedal. I love it. Along with an old DOD Bass Compressor and the SansAmp BDDI, I cant believe how powerful this pedal is. It wasn't even meant for bass. But I dont use it for overdrive. I have it set for a real mean, heavy fuzz!!! It really holds the lows! Pretty $&@ing heavy. I get a good grit with the SansAmp. Believe it or not I like what I'm getting out of my Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3 for dist/overdrive. Of course thats along with other tone generating pedals.

alright, i did around 50 gigs with both an angler and a CPD on my board. the CPD is one my favorites and i probably got interested in it after reading some of your old posts a couple years ago. i did find them a tad redundant to be honest. the sound that i used the most on the angler was a low gain breakup with all controls around 11:00. at that setting its fairly similar to the CPD. the angler can do higher gain sounds but its high gain sounds are a bit over the top for me. the angler has more fuller lows and maybe a tad less mid presence than the CPD to my ears. i do suggest buying an angler as i know you've talked about buying one for a long time and it is a really top notch pedal.

Yeah, sound interesting as the Matamp is very mid heavy so might be better suited than the CPD for that while my Mesa's are a bit more scooped.

How would you describe the high gain sounds of the Angler? "Guitary" I have this thing personally where high gain od's make me want to do 2 things, 1 let out mad crazy guitar like twiddle ala a crazed bass jimi hendrix or 2 makes me wanna do big chuggy bass riffs like Jack Bruce or TimmyC.

Anything that makes me want to do the latter stays :D

I'm liking what I'm reading about the BBBOD rolling off the highs

I once compared the Blue Berry to the Angler. Said once, I said:

Of course that is the glory of the Blue Berry really, you get all that wonderful, warmed up, raging tube sound at the flick of a switch. The Angler's drive, when cranked, is not warm at all. Consequently it doesn't sound too great when alone, but in a mix it works extremely well. Since my tonal goals generally involve cutting through a mix rather than blending together, the Angler is a much better fit for me. Of course, having one of each would certainly cover a vast range of the distortion spectrum.

That was over two years ago, and I stand by that statement! For the most part. I've since switched to tube amps and am quite happy in glassland!

Also, I currently have two Anglers :bassist: :bassist: but sadly no Blue Berry to call my own. :(

Yeah, like Nad said the angler on its own sounds nasally, especially at higher gain settings. The second you have a drumkit goin, it sits right on top of the kick drum. Add one, two, three guitars and its still oin the mix. I've had more compliments on my tone with this pedal than anything else I've tried. Everyone has to try an angler once, and by once I mean with a full band.....

Damn, could I buy a VT and replace all of the above pedals?

or will I get it and my finely tuned ear go "Bah, modified TS clone" :D

I can see this thread going very down hill from here.

Anyone else taking a punt on the Mad Professor BBBOD, I mean I'm going to get it on the assumption that its very very close to the BBBOD but I'll have no idea if it is or not.

Might need to hit Maximus up and see if I can borrow his BBBOD

The Dredge is sorted now, pay day next week when I assume the BBBOD is going to hit Tone Factor, then my Dredge, BBBOD and PT Nano will dispatch and I'll have them all before the end of the month.

Yesterday was the first time in ages that I just sat and played bass for fun, noodled around for a full 40 minutes before it got a bit to late to be rocking the tube rig in the house.

I'm going to mess around with my Ipad and Amplitube and see what sort of recordings I can get done of these pedals.

CPD just brought my Ghost Fx Custom Fuzzface to life.

Pedals, good for reinvigorating the soul, also been good to speak to some old friends this week :D
