SG & EB Bass Club

Speaking of EB-0 mods, I stumbled across this video today. This dude put a Music Man humbucker in the bridge position. I think it sounds pretty damn good lol! The music is a little loud so it's hard to hear at some points. But the pickup seems to suit the bass very well. What do you guys think? I'm intrigued to say the least. Anyone else here try this or know someone who did?

I like how it sounds in the video. I would do it, but sometimes I have more money in my pocket than sense in my head so ymmv.

My guess is that my '68 EB-3 is the same.

Most likely. They ran out of that stuff by '71 or thereabouts, since the '72 SG Special that I own is clearly made from different type of Mahagony than the older Gibbies in my collection. The last bass to actually specify HM as the species used was the original Les Paul Bass, and these were done with and replaced by LP Triumph at some point in late '71 or early '72...

Don't we all...:D

Your videos always make me wish I could use a pick on occasion...which I'm not able to due to an old badly healed wrist injury...rock on...:bassist:

So I hit a little speed bump today in my quest for an EB-0. The one that I bought online from Guitar Center came in today and it was a mess. I could tell it was real old and it was not in great condition. To top it off, there was no serial number on it and it was stamped "USED" on the back of the headstock. Which I know is like a factory blemish designation or something like that. I was like, nope lol.

Thankfully, Guitar Center was cool with my returning it to my local store, which I did. As I was walking around, I saw they had a new one hanging up so I said screw it and just bought it full price. Buying used gear online is such a crap shoot anyways and I'm glad that I have a brand new one. I paid a little more than I was hoping. But at least I don't have to worry about used gear woes now. So I guess it all worked out.

Ok, great that it worked out for you in the end!

Now I have to remind you that pics of new basses are mandatory in this club.
Haha well ok but I figured you guys have seem enough of them lol.

So far I'm pleased with it. The neck will need some adjustment but that's no big deal. The sound isn't great, but I expected that. I watched LowEndLobsters entire mod series on this so I know what I was getting into. I'm more or less going that route for this. Artec 30K mudbucker and Hipshot hardware. I'm still deciding whether I want to go with the South Korean tuners or splurge for the USA ones. I guess for an extra 40 bucks it's probably worth it. What do you guys think?

Don’t quote me, but I think the ‘licensed’ tuners are different in diameter from the US ones. I went the whole route on mine not long after I got it - tuners, bridge, and pickup.

Hey guys I need some help! My new Hipshot bridge came today and I installed it. But when I tried to tune up it pulled the inserts right out of the body. :( How do I fix this??

Three-point Hipshots come with two sets of bolts. One for Epis and one for Gibsons. I don't know whether it's possible to install the incorrect ones, but you may want to look into that.

Good luck.

Sorry I don’t think I explained this correctly, my bad. I meant the things the bolts go into, in the body. Underneath the bridge. They pulled up and out of the body when I tried to tune up. I don’t have a picture right now but I can get one later.
