Thanks for the info. It's my understanding the SG neck pickup is actually a t-bird pickup. I think I'd much prefer something closer to original vintage spec sidewinder. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Stonewall and Novak both make stellar replacements and will also wind them anyway you want them. They aren't cheap though. I have a Novak mudbucker and a Stonewall bridge pickup in my Gibson. I dig both of them.
I also have an EBO that I stuck a cheap Artec in and it roars with tons of classic Gibson mud.

I almost bought one of those. I'm pretty sure its just a 4 wire Artec though. I could be wrong but I passed on it. I spent about half as much on basically the same pickup through another vendor.

Ah yes, Sentell. Forgot to mention those. I've looked into it, but have seen mixed reviews - some glowing and some underwhelmed.

Well, if one is expecting anything close to a Mudbucker, they are going to be *severely* disappointed. If they are looking for the exact opposite, Sentell is their man.

I was thinking of starting a "Mudbucker replacement options" thread over in the pickups forum. Try and compile/consolidate some options and opinions.

Given the undying hate that quite a few folks here have for all things Gibson, get ready for the troll legion...

You'll want to peek under the hood to know exactly what you have

I also replaced my Epi not mudbucker with an Artec 30k pickup

Hey just a quick/informal poll...how many of you guys have flats on your EBs?

I'm asking because, although I generally like the way my EBs sound with nickel wrapped rounds, they both have a bit too much of that metallic "zing" tone...if you know what I mean. I put 250K volume pots in them and that helped a little. But now I'm thinking maybe I should try flats. And I just wanted to see what you guys were doing, for some reference. Thanks.

EB0 or what? GHS Pressurewounds for me but i have a semi parametric EQ so i can dial in on the 65 Newport...i like GHS Precision flats as well.

Thanks guys. I want to try switching strings on my EB-3L first I think. Selection for long scale flats in 105s seems limited for some reason though. Labella, Roto, or Ernie Ball, pretty much. Labella seems like the classic choice I guess. Anybody ever try Roto flats?

I'm fairly certain I used Chromes on my EB3L.
Tried a set of GHS Brite Flats on my '09 Epi EB-0. Only strings I've ever cut.
Currently using 45/65/80/100 EBCFs on my TBird. Like 'em.

I measured ball-to-nut and it was close enough that I decided better safe than sorry and got the medium scale.

It's close, but OK for me.

Anybody ever try Roto flats?

Yes. Me and some other guys had problems with the short scale Roto flats. They had some weird overtones with the EB-0 neck pickup. The gauge is very light on the e-string. On some other basses the same set was very nice with its own unique tone. My guess is that the problem doesn't occur with long scale and thicker gauges.
