Two things... I was talking the $700 range and five strings. You were talking about an $800 four string. And without trying very hard I've seen dealers include tax in the price. Unless you're buying online and don't have the tax issue or are in a state like Delaware with no sales tax.

Bottom line, under $800 for a new MIA JD5 back then wasn't an aberration. That's what I'm saying.

About a month ago, I met a young bassist from Chicago, Lawrence "Shawn" Calloway who is pretty ferocious. He is a student of Maurice Fitzgerald. I saw Shawn todaqy because we swapped basses. He is also a friend of Sharay Reed, and shared with me that Sharay teaches select students. He combines Bible study with his bass lessons. I think it is pretty neat that the Christianity is an integral part of his sense of the bass. I'm definitely not pushing religion on anyone, I just think it is nice that a church bassist of skills is sincerely a part of the institution as oppossed to just getting a paycheck.:)

Very cool. I wish there was someone of that skill level, with that type of commitment to God and church, that I could take lessons from without having to drive 2 hours.

i caught that too...funny...i found myself turning in my seat with the same expression in a few places...awesome tone and great feel...

i saw it was a GK, too, and i immediately thought 'norm stockton' and then it was made apparent how versatile the GK stuff is...sounds awesome...
