Shielding - How do you know it will help?

Here's a shielding paint that I haven't tried yet:

It's copper in a latex base, thinned with water. It's sold by Caswell, the home-shop electroplating company. It's manufactured for electromagnetic shielding, and is sold by Caswell to be used for coating non-conductive materials, so they can be electroplated. It can be brushed or sprayed, dries quickly, and is supposed to be fully conductive. Not dirt cheap; $42 for 4.8 oz, but less expensive per ounce than SuperShield.

When my current cans of SuperShield run out, I may try it. I do shielding often enough that I'd rather have a jar of liquid, and buy a cheap little touchup spray gun to dedicate to that job. Less wasted paint, no more problems with clogged spray cans.

You can now get SuperShield is a much more convenient and affordable brush-on size. You no longer have to buy a gallon of it, you can get a jar. I do not know what the cost is compared to this stuff by Caswell though.

Have you seen the jar? It's a very tiny jar. Barely enough to shield one instrument by brushing. I bought one and use it for occasional touchups. The Caswell copper appears to be quite a bit cheaper per ounce.

Yep, that's what I've used for 2 Precisions so far, and it's worked out perfectly. I've mentioned this earlier in this thread, but I shielded my Classic 50's and it's DEAD QUIET. I live in an old cottage with noisy wiring, play near my TV and speakers, etc. It's so easy to just paint the cavity and run a ground wire to the shielding and you're done. Both P's I've painted dont buzz anymore. Not he Classic 50's I scratched off some of the anodizing on the underside of the pickguard and tied that in to the shielding. On the other P I put some foil tape under the pickguard and tied that in to the shielding on the body. Super quick, super simple.
