Shielding question

I'm getting tired of battling the hummmmmmm of my single coils. They are not shielded and I plan to do something. Is the copper tape that I could get at Lowe's, for instance, the same as I would get from a guitar supply place? Should I just bite the bullet and paint? Paint seems easier. Any input would be appreciated. Bob

The slug repellant tape that my wife bought works fine.

Apparently not all copper tape has conductive adhesive, so if you overlap sections, test continuity with a multimeter, or (better yet) tack-solder them together.
