Double Bass Shims in a bridge.

Instead of installing a new bridge my luthier installed shims above the adjusters in order to make the existing bridge tall enough. Is this accepted procedure?

I have a question for you: Did this bridge fit acceptably well at one point, on this bass? If so, then it seems like your top must be sinking. Under normal circumstances a well-fit bridge with adjusters should have more than enough range to cover seasonal adjustments. Perhaps something else is happening to your bass?

People sometimes have their bridges recut for one reason or another and they keep getting shorter.

no mater how many times I cut it, it's still too short!

The bridge was put in by a do it yourselfer before we bought it, the top is fine.
