I never thought the Ric headstock was that nice, its ok, but too bulky, IMO, Shines headstock is smaller, but appearancewise, nothing special either, luckily, I don't buy instruments based on how their headstock looks. Not that I don't appriciate a nice 'stock.

:help::help::hyper:hi guys, i have been watching a bass in ebay ,it is a Shine 5 string,looks quite nice , however i do not know anything about these basses,as to how they play and are they up for regular gigging,can they be played hard,and stay in tune?.i use a 5string aria, never knew the model,except that it is made in japan,and came in about 10 years after the magna series came out.,just wandered if the shine would stand up to the aria as well as my tokai jazz does, this shine has 1 "F"hole in the body at the top,any ideas or info. i would really be grateful,before i consider putting in a bid.

hey all, ive got a shine bass ive had for years, great sounding and pretty reliable.. until last year when all the electronics seemed to go wrong xD shes an older model but im not sure what it is, im trying to get her fixed up now but its causing all kinds of problems all i know is the fretboard is extened and it plays and sounds the buisness (when it works xD) easy to play and well weighted, a good all rounder and a great starter. mine had a massive chunk taken out of it though from a very careless owner (more likely tried to smash it on stage and it was too solid!) so a big jagermeister sticker hides that. but i just wondered if anyone knows what she is? its the same bass as... I've a Shine 6. Picked it up really cheap just so I could try a 6 string.
Build quality is great,good range of sounds. Yep it's a keeper.

It looks just the trick and matches with the quilt as you said. Really cool you having it in the photo,
String dampeners never get shown or even mentioned. I'll bet you've been asked what it's for more
than once.

Yep I really like what you've did with it. Quilted top aside the change to the lower horn balances
the look so well. It takes a fine eye to picture that detail especially when it was covered in stickers.

As we say here in Scotland " That's Braw "

Oh BTW Jay yours is an Extreme EB846 model.

Dabbler you have great taste in Bass Guitars. Are the two white Basses the SX
Licensed Bass Collection models ? If they are anything like my own Nanyo then
they'll play like a dream probably ,one of the most under-rated basses ever
made.

Real shame the Douglas and SX basses aren't available in the UK, from what I've
heard they deliver the goods.

I have a shine bass, the particular model may be a SB504. I not sure though as the model number is not on the bass. I bought it for £60 of Evilbay on the grounds that it was aesthetically pleasing. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Light, 3 switchable pups, thin neck, very playable indeed. Apart from lowering the action it was good to go. I used it as a back up for a number of years and my mate has it now. I would recommend them, as I said very nice bass to play and has a good sound too.

Thank you and good eye! Yes, the 2 white ones are fretted and fretless licensed SX SB301 Bass Collection copies. They sound great, and play well, EXCEPT that the fretless has developed a slight dip in the fretboard where the first fret sould be which is causing buzzing there. Some day, I will get off my duff, get a radiused sanding block and level the neck (I'm playing mostly fivers these days, so I don't miss it much). I bought a used Nanyo SB301 a while back and the SX copies compared VERY well! And I agree that The Bass Collections (at least the SB301) is a very under-rated jewel!

Thanks for replying Dabbler. You're a man after my own heart I see, good instruments rather than
names on headstocks. May I recommend the Douglas Pisces 2TS.

The one I have has the Thomann brand Harley Benton logo on the headstock. Classic look,
sweet player,great quality. I believe the Douglas and the Benton are the same Bass.

Darkstrike you are right it appears the SX,Shine and the Bentons from Thomann are well
see above.

I had a look at Waltons earlier today, plenty of choices and good prices but there's a note
in their delivery policy " Waltons have an agreement not to sell certain models outside the
Republic.". Kind of explains why the SX aren't generally for sale in the UK,though the Shines
are quite common.

Sadly doesn't help when you see things like this on Rondo's site.
