Double Bass Shipping a 3/4 upright bass without a case

It seems that Fedex will no longer ship...anyone had any positive experiences using freight lines/other shippers?

Any info would be much appreciated!

You need some kind of case to ship a bass. Steve Swan has a ton of experience shipping and recommends a pallet to hold the case vertical. Build something.

You may consider a bass dealer to help. Sure there is a cost, but the chance of damage is high.

Where can I get a pallet like this? How large does the pallet need to be?

Steve’s Nov 8th Facebook post has pictures with comments on shipping. I would go there first and if need be talk to Steve directly. He is always very helpful.

Box on a pallet. I use U ship that provides multiple quotes if you don't have a shipper.

I had Kolstein ship my little travel bass (kinda like the size of a cello). It was a box inside a huge box and more packing peanuts than I or the guys at the UPS loading dock have ever seen - lol - it was a slightly windy day and they went everywhere!

I had a bass shipped from String Emporium from AZ to Texas, they used Southwest Air cargo and it was packed like the pictures above: giant box on a pallet. No shipping method is completely safe, but this is a pretty common and normally successful method.
