Shipping US -> UK - Anyone done it?

Hi all,

Exploring my options for getting a bass shipped over from the US to the UK. Can anyone recommend any good price websites to look at my options? Chances are the neck would be removed to make the parcel smaller too.

i shipped from the US to Australia once. I can tell you that was expensive, dont know how much help i can be here though

I heard from someone here that shipping the neck and body not only removed but in seperate boxes is the cheapest way you can do it.

USPS is pretty safe to ship with and they offer international services.

I shipped to the UK before. I used UPS or FedEx. Wasn't too bad. Personally, I wouldn't ship USPS. My good friend shipped a guitar to the UK with USPS and the guy didn't get it until about 3 months later. I also shipped to Australia. That was really expensive.

I just shipped a neck to Germany - Fedex was $120, 4 day delivery, USPS was $35, 6-10 days delivery with insurance. I chose USPS and it got there in 5 days, safe and sound. You could probably do a split body and neck with USPS to UK for less than $150 I am guessing.

I ship to the UK a lot. A full bass with hard case that is 51x18x6 weighing about 30 pounds should cost you roughly $110 to $120. The box has to be less than 108 combined inches and you can only insure it up to $650. I've never had a problem in shipping to the UK. The only thing is that the buyer usually will want you to declare the guitar for a lower amount so he can save on customs fees. That is a moral decision on your part, but if you do it, make sure you and the buyer both agree that you can only insure the package for what he wants you to declare it for. Also if something happens to it during shipment that he is responsible for the remainder of the money.
