Shoot-out! Schroeder Triad Vs. Bergantino NV610

Alright, Im in the market for a cabinet that can handle my SVT silverface reissue... I have been trying to figure this out for far too long, so I have come to TB for assistance (hooray)- I would like nothing more than to get this rig up and running.

I am looking into the Schroeder Triad and the Bergantino 610. I have talked to both companies (Jorg Schroeder himself) and these are the cabinets they suggested. I am pretty sure the Bergs are more popular around here, so hear me out-

The deciding factors for me is, does the extra "get the best out of your all tube amp" tone (with the bergie nv610) enough to pass up the triad given it is smaller/lighter/easily movable and has a 10" a 12" and a 15"? I have an older SWR Triad, and I dig it but it cant handle the SVT. I have never tried a Bergie, but I know their something holy- Also, my practice space is somewhat small, so maybe the triad (@ 1200 Mutha F'in Watts!!!) might be too loud (now that I think about it more, probably so)... also I like to stand out in the mix... So figure that in there if ya can

I haven't tried the Triad, but unless Jorg is doing something different with the impedance of the speakers, I'd think the cab would be displacement limited to it's most wimpy driver (presumably the 10"). I'd look into what he's doing with that cab. If it's just a group of different sizes drivers all running full range I'd be concerned. Also, look at the individual speaker impedances and the wiring method used tonsee how the power will be distributed.

As for the Berg: The NV610 does seem like a pretty logical thing to pair with an SVT...

I'd guess that triad would give more of a modern full range response that you might prefer.

On the other hand I know my NV610 pairs very well with my tube powered SVT's. It works equally well with clean or highly distorted tones and gives me that vintage punchy, feel, tone and vibe with the pronounced low-mids that cut through a dense distorted guitar-band mix, so I can hear myself without playing too loud.

I was pleasantly surprised to find my NV610's response remained very consistent from room to room requiring very little tone knob/EQ tweaking. I've had much fewer problems dealing with boomy sounding stages than any ported cab I've ever tried.

Having owned both Schroeder and Bergantino cabinets, I whole-heartedly recommend the NV610. I replaced my 310212 with it and realize they're in completely different leagues. Bergantino's build quality is flawless. As for acoustic design, the NV610 is simple, but properly done. Schroeder cabinets tend to ignore accepted best practice in acoustics.

Also, note that the power (wattage) rating of a cabinet has little to do with how loud it will be in practice. I'd suggest looking at sensitivity ratings, but Schroeder's tend to be so inflated that they're meaningless as a comparison.

The NV610 is seriously in a different league, and I can't think of a single reason to pay the same amount of money for a Schroeder that would be inferior in every way from design through to build. If at all possible, find a way to see/play cabinets from each company. It's pretty hard to adequately explain how different they are in quality, but it's instantly apparent in person.

If at all possible, find a way to see/play cabinets from each company. It's pretty hard to adequately explain how different they are in quality, but it's instantly apparent in person.

I know why some of the older Schroe designs worked well for some people and why the marketing worked too, but I consider the liabilities of design and worksmanship somewhat outside my druthers. I think people are better served getting same-sized drivers in their cabs unless actual separate chambers and crossovers are involved.

And Berg plays good game.

the only way to know what is good for u is to a b side by side the two in the same room with same amp and bass

I will say this I have blown a ht322 12 and never blew my Schroeder stuff yet!!!

plus Jorg is way more a cool dude to me then berg was and I need a tweeter in my cabs not just 10's

If you want the SVT vibe from your SVT, get the Berg.

Also... you said you like to stand out in the mix... the Berg will definitely get you there. Like the Ampeg 8x10, it's a mid-focused cab.

If you're looking for some other kind of tone, well maybe the Schroeder will work for you, but I have the same reservations that were expressed above.
