Shopping at GC the other day

On my way to pick up my newly acquired Squier Affinity P bass, I stopped to buy a gigbag. Was looking online for the cheapest bag, and there was a GC on the way. Right off the highway, and the price was right ($19.95 + tax).

Anyway, I knew I was going to encounter some guitards there, wailing away at ear drum shattering volumes, and I wasn't disappointed.

What I didn't expect was the lack of customer service. I walked in, and the cashier near the door said "Hello, welcome to Guitar Center". I walked toward the bass section, and the used passing through the amps and noise.

No cases or bags.

After making a lap around that area of the store I walked back to the cashier, and asked where the cases and bags were. She didn't say anything, just pointed toward a corner with a sign that said ACCESSORIES.

Right there on the shelf were the bag in a box gigbags that I was looking for. I picked it up, and took it back to the checkout counter.

The cashier was talking to the other about having a migraine. The other said "You know, and orgasm usually cures them." And the first one said "Too bad I'm at work." The second one said "Well, you get a break soon, there's always the restroom...". Right as I was standing there. No shame at all.

I would have offered to help her get rid of that migraine, in a totally creepy way.

Sometimes this kind of stuff just falls on you.

Some gal came knocking on my hotel room door in N'Orleans, yelling about losing her key.

I opened the door and invited her in. The look on her face was priceless!

Sometimes it seems that good customer service is quickly becoming something from the past.
You can still find good customer service with the online stores. I've only had a problem with one and it really wasn't that big of a deal.
The local mom and pop store treats me pretty good, so I do my business there whenever possible.

I dont go there often, but I try to leave a GC in a better state than I found it in. Often the employees who help me learn a tidbit or two from my banter. I don't show up expecting expertise, I just show up knowing what I need and that it's in stock, and I don't get disappointed.

I don't know what state these Guitar Centers are in that I hear so many tales of woe...not only have I never had a problem at any of the 5 GCs I frequent, but I also get incredible deals like my Markbass CMD-121P and Pearl White Sterling Ray 34 ...$599 each, both new, brand new Dean Exotica marked down from $399 to $217, and my Inca Silver Squier CV Jazz, not on sale but definitely worth more than the $379 online price.

I always get good customer service at my local Guitar Centers. I just posted a thread about yesterday evening about this... Maybe it is a regional thing?

The lack of customer service is the only reason I go to guitar center. They are so inattentive that I feel free to just play anything I want for as long as I want. And they typically know next to nothing about gear, so any exchange I do end up having is mercifully brief. I won't feel the slightest bit guilty about spending 2 hours playing everything they have and then leaving without so much as a pack of strings.

We have two in San Diego. One (La Mesa) is a gem. Staffed properly, taking care of business.

The other (San Marcos) is an understaffed pit of despair, so bad they pulled the receptionist/loss prevention target/receipt checker about two years ago and never replaced that position. They do not care and I suspect they're on a short list to close down soon. At least they're nice.
