Shopping for basses in Denver

Spotlight Music in Fort Collins is a nice store, locally owned, with friendly employees. They had about eight low-end basses in stock (Fender, Ibanez, and ESP). The nicest bass was a Fender Steve Harris signature bass ($1,300). They had one used Fodera Victor Wooten “Ying Yang” model bass on consignment for $6,000 (it belongs to an employee). For amplifiers they had one Mesa with a 2x10 Mesa cabinet, a Mesa Walkabout Scout 15, and a Fender Bassman 300 tube amp with a 4x10 cabinet.

+1 on Spotlight. I've always had great experiences there. The guys who work there tend to know what they're talking about, too. And that Fodera is nice to look at. They don't carry as many used basses as they once did, though.

I'll also second Guitars, etc. in Longmont (where I live). Todd (the owner) is a good guy. I've never bought a bass from him (though I keep threatening to by a Modulus Q6 from him), but I go there for strings, accessories and such.

Used to be a cool bass-only shop in Denver in the 90s called "First Bass" that had all sorts of good stuff. Sold a Bass IQ pedal recently to the former owner - a real character (in a good way).

Joe,

I didn't see much used stuff in the last few weeks (see my post a few replies above). When I was at Music Go Round in Littleton, the only remotely cool stuff is the items listed in my previous post. If there's any really good places for used gear, I haven't found them yet. Perhaps most of the used stuff is going for sale in the classifieds here or EBay?

I don't know if I'm violating the CUP, but I'm opening a bass specialty store in Superior CO off US 36 (Boulder Turnpike) in September. 7 miles to Boulder, 20 miles to downtown Denver, and easy access to/from the airport via the northwest parkway. I hope to be the local fix for all things bass in Denver, Boulder, and the Rocky Mountains.

:hyper: I hope I have some spending money for your grand opening!

Wow, apparently a resurrected thread! lol

I'm really looking forward to when Premier Bass opens... heard about it from fellow TB'er PortraitOfTracy at the Marcus Miller show a couple weeks ago!

I miss Guitar X quite a bit, it's too bad he closed up shop (still working out of his basement I hear though). The shop had a great vibe and had some great high-end gear. On the flip side, I've been to Drum City Guitar Land once. And ONLY once. The staff couldn't have cared less that I was there. No one spoke to me at all, even to just say hi.

Premier, I'm hoping you carry some really sick stuff in your shop, but as sad as it is to say, you'll probably have to carry the low end gear too (which you probably already knew). I suspect that's why Guitar X closed up... no Squiers or Behringer to be seen and Soccer Parent buying their kid their first bass isn't going to pay $3-4k for the likes of Modulus or Roscoe or a high end amp setup.

I wish Premier Bass the best and am looking forward to visiting your shop... probably frequently, knowing my G.A.S. lol

As of right now I won't be carrying lower end products, mostly higher end stuff not stocked by others locally. That said I will carry the import lines of some of the USA bass builders.

The current list of brands is on my web page Link Removed. This will be replaced by a webstore once I open the retail store.

Oh noes... MTD....... I've lusted after an MTD forever...................

Not a bad list so far, curious about the "and more" of course. Lol I'm definitely looking forward to the opening!

Hey Colorado players, Premier Bass is open and I can easily say it's the best bass shop I've ever been to. They have two private rooms to audition equipment, knowledgable and friendly staff, and a great selection of basses and amps. I spent a couple of hours there today trying out amps. There was no pressure, they were happy to answer all my questions and set up a few different configurations for me to try out.

If for no other reason, I'd go there just to see all the basses they carry. Roscoe, MTD, Sadowsky, Mike Lull, G&L, Lakland, Reverend and on and on.

Check 'em out! :)
