Short Scale Tele Bass Build

Hey y’all. After assembling several parts basses and completing a body build with a Warmoth neck, I’m taking the plunge and building one from scratch. My plan is to essentially make a Musicmaster neck and put on a slightly elongated Tele body. After doing some maths, it looks like I can get the 12th fret pretty close to the horn, although I’m sure neck dive will be a thing.

I got a 3 piece mahogany blank for the body and some smoked maple for the neck/fretboard.

My current plan for pups is a Curtis Novak DS in the neck position, and his Musicmaster pup in the “normal” position. I don’t know yet how to wire it, but I’m thinking normal Tele switch, volume and tone knobs, with a push/pull on the tone knob to coil tap the DS.

This is all very ambitious for me, but at least I’m aided by my complete lack of knowledge, understanding, and skill. All help, encouragement, criticisms, and ways you would do it different are greatly appreciated.

You've come to the right place! We'll help you build up your knowledge and skill, to meet up to your ambitions! And then you can raise your ambitions higher.....so you need even more knowledge and skill....and...

That sounds like a cool project concept. Start gathering up that knowledge, materials, tools and skills. Make it happen.
