Shortscale - Any G&L Fallout Bass Owners?

Here's mine with Hipshots installed and holes filled nicely by my man Rojo412. Bass weight dropped from 8 lbs 14 ounces to 8 lbs 9 ounces. No more neck dive.

I've owned a G&L ASAT (Tele style body), various Mustangs, old and new and currently play the short scale passive Sterling Stingray. G&L will always be a better quality than a Mustang IMHO. Truth told, it's also better quality and sound than the Sterling SS4 but I'll stick with the Stingray. I flipped my PJ Mustang.

Yep same here. Berore changing mine I weighed a Hipshot tuner and a OEM tuner, just to know if the change would be worth it. The weight differential is bigger than I expected.

OEM = 3.1 oz @
Hipshot = 1.8 oz @

I shaved 5.2 oz off my headstock. Which ofcourse means 5.2 oz off the total weight, so there's that too. Was it worth it? It was for me, might be for you too. Cheers.

Can anyone tell me the overall length of these things? I have a danelectro DC59 short scale (also long for a shorty) and am hoping to find a similarly sized shortscale with a different flavor to replace a hefty P-Bass. I'm really digging the looks of these things and have always been a huge fan of MFD pickups so I think it's a winner (assuming I can find one in the 8lbish range).

My 10.5lb P-bass (with F-stamped lightweight tuners) is getting less and less playtime due to the weight and I'm hoping to find another solid SS to pair with the Dano.

That said, I'm leaning towards a Jetson Jr. Due to the lighter weight and ability to still use my existing stash of P-Bass pickups.

That's a tough choice! The Jetson is my pick too from the Eastwood range, and if you're into swapping P pickups that would be fun.
This might be helpful: according to the Eastwood site the Jetson is about 8lbs too. So at least that variable is removed from the decision. The stock hardware on the Fallout is really good, I doubt the Eastwood could match it on that.

Thanks, That's the exact length of the DC59! They also have the same nut width and appear to have an equal amount of neck dive. Sounds like it'll be a great pairing. It's hard to beat the weight though, the 59 is 6lb 9oz on my shipping scale!

I've always liked the idea of the Jetson, but have been leary due to the reported build quality in comparison to the G&L. The G&L feels like it's priced appropriately, the Jetson seems like a $400 max kinda bass to me. The Fallout is super appealing for it's fit and finish out of the box.

Got a launch edition. Not really a fan of the bass or the whole experience of buying it.

Overpriced for what you get, IMO. The bass was not well built. My $200 Squier Bronco from a few years ago has nicer frets. Both the retailer, Music Store Live, and G&L were horrible to deal with.

Wish it had full L-1K controls, including the bass knob. I think the guard is a really ugly design too. They should have gone without a guard, and used an attractively shaped metal control plate. No hard cases for them either. An instrument over $1,000 without a factory hard case is extremely lame. Not that the cases that come (or came) with G&Ls are very well made these days anyhow, but still. I knew all that and accepted it anyhow, just to have the historic first short scale from my favorite bass company.

It was supposed to be, and was originally marketed as, a $1,400 retail price bass. But right before orders opened up, G&L upped the price by $300. When called on this online, they just plain lied about it, and said the price was always going to be $1,700. Meanwhile, every retailer I talked to about it said no, it was $1,400, then G&L changed it at the last minute.

My retailer honored the originally advertised price, but there were other problems. It was supposed to come with flats and the old style knobs. It came with rounds and dome knobs. G&L accepted these spec requests which the retailer had specifically ordered, but then didn't fulfill them. And when the retailer confronted G&L on it, G&L refused to make good by simply sending the retailer the set of knobs and strings that had been ordered. The retailer promised to pay me something like $89 to buy the knobs and strings myself, but it took 18 months of repeated e-mails, calls, and FTC complaints before they actually paid up.

This is not to mention that when the bass came in, the shop put it up for sale online at $1,700, rather than sending it to me. I am glad I was watching like a hawk, or they would have sold my pre-paid-in-full special order right out from under me, and been unable to replace it, as it was a limited launch edition. A big part of me thinks this move was deliberate. Why deliver a bass that someone has paid $1,400 for when you can sell it for $1,700?

Almost completely unimpressed by the bass itself, the G&L company, and the retailer. This was the last straw for me and the modern day G&L company. The bass has done nothing but sit because it just isn't very good, and it just pisses me off every time I play it.

I bought mine from SW as a 'Second'. I think this means there's a paint flaw or something cosmetic that doesn't allow a full retail. It doesn't affect the mechanics or playability.
I never found any flaw it, but I really didn't look too hard. Mine's a working bass that I started gigging with right after it arrived. I consider it one of the best bass-values I've ever owned.
I've owned several G&L basses. I can't comment on G&L's service because everyone I've owned worked just fine.

Alright Y'all, looks like I'm joining the club! Got a decent offer on my P-Bass over the weekend and was able to straight trade for a new Fallout with a little still left in my pocket. Found this guy on SW listed at 8lb 6oz and it's headed to the house as we speak. Might use the surplus to scrape down to 8lb 1oz with the help of some lightweights.

Whelp, it's going back to SW... Although it was lighter than the P, it was much less comfortable. I seriously underestimated the amount of neck dive this thing would have. Removing 2 tuners to simulate ultralights didn't do enough to mitigate the problem on this one (probably because this particular body was so light).

The A string also showed up with some nasty fret buzz all the way up the neck, even with a high action and correct relief. The color was pretty cool though, and very different from the photos. It's nearly Shell Pink compared to my Olympic white mustang haha. It honestly looked pretty cool, but it's just not my thing.

If anyone is in the market for a pink-ish fallout, check SW for a demo that weighs 8lb 6oz in the near future.
