So recently I've doing alot of recording (obligatory self promotion: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) and I've been wanting to really improve my recording setup. I recently bought a new interface but I dont want to drop too much money on a copy of protools or some other DAW software if I'm gonna get a new computer at somepoint soon. So I've just been using free software. From what I hear macbooks are the way to go for this kinda thing. Any thoughts?

Should I buy a Macbook Pro for recording?

A friend's son just graduated from the Art School with a degree which includes Audio Engineering, Studio Recording and live sound, he uses a Windows I7 laptop with 16 GB of RAM and two Intel 256GB SSD drives. He has relegated his Mac book for pulling up patches for his keyboard which has an awesome Hammond B3 patch. Oh, he uses Pro Tools.
I have gotten by really well with a second hand Power Mac G5 for £100 ($170). It has Dual 2.3Ghz thingy-ma-bobs and 5gb of that ram stuff. To be honest I'm not a computer person so can't really tell you all the specs, but it does really well if you only use it for recording 
monitor and keyboard/mouse were extra, but it was still less than 1/10 of what I would have paid for a new mac! It doesn't have the latest OS, but I couldn't care less

My 2010 MacBook Pro Quad i7 has been flawless.
I'm using my 24" external display with it, so I can drag any DAW/ plugin window to either screen for maximum visibility.
If I remember correctly, with the i7 Quad Core processor, the MacBook Pro Quad is capable of something like 72 simultaneous analog I/O's & plugins.
I was using my 2004 Mac G5 2.0 Dual Processor Tower (8 DIMM) considered a true workhorse Mac, but the MBP leaves it in the dust with 7 Times faster processing speeds
and so many fewer glitches caused by old drivers.
