As someone who's always looking for a deal, a tip I might pass on:

Fretless is one of those things that a fair percentage of guys that buy their first one . . . . and decide it's their last one. In other words, you can often find that Squier VM Fretless Jazz barely used for a savings. Don't know if you're a 'new only' guy, but if you like a deal, I'd be looking to see what's out there.

Those are a great, traditional first fretless.

As all of us married fellas know, as long as SHE says it's alright, you're good. Good Luck !

In February of 2020, I bought a white Squier Classic Vibe 60’s P Bass. Not my favorite bass, but I do like it. A lot. That having been said, BUY IT!!

I mean we are all a bunch of enablers around here, right?

The Squier VM Fretless has great bang for the buck, especially used. I got mine for $140. Can’t complain about it at all. I’m thinking of selling it (haven’t quite decided) only because since I got my fretless Ric a couple years ago I’ve hardly touched anything else.
