Should I get a new bass or mod?

So this has nothing to do with the specific basses. I have a $200 squier jag and I was thinking of getting a new bass at some point, one that is a bit higher quality, and I was going to spend around 600-700. I want to know if it will be cheaper to buy a new, better bass or buy mods, because i know that pickups alone are expensive, the lowest ive seen is around 100. Opinions? (possible new basses include a warwick, ibanez soundgear, etc...)

Get a better amp first. After that, get a new bass. If you spent $200 on the bass and $150 on new electronics you'd be lucky to get $200 back, it's just the way the used market works.

Should i really get a new amp, i dont really use the tone things, and it's a pretty good amp, cost more than the bass, 35watt. Regardless, I wasn't planning on selling my bass at all (unless I REALLY have to, but im not even in college yet)

Yeah, if it's only 35w you'll need a bigger amp if you want to start gigging or join a band. With only 35 watts you'll be drowned out really badly. However, if you're still just practicing and aren't looking to gig or jam with others for a bit then you then hey, power to ya. Just keep in mind that more watts gives you more clarity and will drastically improve your sound more than a higher priced bass would. Think about it - you could be playing a high quality, well built instrument but if your amp sounds is weak then that awesome bass would sound weak, too. No amount of electronics wizardry on your bass will overcome an amp's voice, especially if it's a practice amp.

Yeah, i see what you mean, but the only place i would e jamming is at my friends house, and he has a 200watt bass amp for me to use, so yeah :P When i start gigging, i might invest in that
