Usually the body on a solid-color, low-end bass is a checkerboard of laminated-up pieces of wood that won't look nice if you let them shine through a clear coat or a semi-transparent finish.

And --- chunked parquet wood finishes aren't the 'IN thing' right now. You'll need stickers - LOTS of stickers. YRMV.

Be ye careful here as you might just junk a pretty nice finish only to find out you need to put it all back on again, and you won't EVER equal the poly-urethane factory finish.

Think about it - if Fender had that high quality wood under a solid color - does that sound anywhere near correct to cover it with a flaming red or midnight black color?

Just me here - but with that thought (yours, not mine) I'd be out buying some red and black paint right about now.

1. Don't trade in your first bass, especially if you're only going to get $50 for it. It might seem unimportant to you now but farther on down the line there's a good chance you'll regret it. My 1st was a worthless POS but I sure wish I had it back for the memories. You can always find another $50 somewhere but there's only one FIRST.

2. Buy the VM. Even if you don't like it you can just turn around and resell it for about the same money...buying used is like a lending library in that way.

3. Stripping a body is a lot harder than you'd think and often doesn't produce the results you'd expect. It also invalidates my #2 above. However, it's a good learning experience.

It doesn't take any space except for the

line. The actual space consumption is with wherever you have those pix saved for references.

The pixs get called in from the URL of the pixs and don't reside on this server at all.

I painted for years too - and that looks more of a "Moly Orange" in the pix to me. Pixels can be screwed by the rendering engines though.

Not to say that there isn't a "Chevy Red". But actually if you say 'Red' it might be "Matador Red ".

Of course, I could be totally wrong - it's happened b4. That's my 'Get Outta Jail - Free' card.

for his old jeep he was getting rid of some paint so he was putting it in a metal 5galon bucket he looked down and goes wow i like that color. it was like 3 or 4 colors he did some mixing and said wow that color is cool. it;s like a cool green color so he painted his jeep that color. he says it;s his custom color. now the only thing is if he gets a scratch or chip he doesnt remeber what colors he used to paint it.

'Cost alot (sic)' is right. I pay over $400.00/gallon and even though the paint itself is only 3 quarts, when you add the hardeners, cats, retarders and Wet-Look it gets to almost a full gallon.
