I currently own an AMPEG V-4 BH head that I would'nt change for an empire, except if somebody supplies me with 2 slaves to carry an SVT-CL. I presently use it with a Hartke 410 VX that I don't appreciate much. I am playing many kinds of music, from straight jazz to rockabilly, though my preference is for soul/groove music (not much slap) and live in France (not much chance to go second hand). I wish to change my cabinet but, as everybody, I'm on a budget. The Kustom DE610 H is now on sale at Thomann, since it has been discontinued. Do you think this could be a good choice, since high end cabinets are extremely expensive for us here?

should I go 6x10 (Kustom-Ampeg content)

I had to look that one up.
From the specs, it looks like it could be a good choice.
One nice thing about it is that it is wide enough to set the
V4B on with it hanging over the sides.
Can you get a good deal on it?

Hi Bill, thank you for your post. Here in Europe, where taxes are high (Ca. 20%), I can have it all taxes included, delivered to my door for approx. 420.00 $, which is less than half an Ampeg SVT 410. My concern is more about quality of the speakers, since a replacement could be difficult & expensive. Anyway, I think I can take the risk at that price level.

Kustom does not get a lot of love here. The stuff I've tried is OK. But quality of cabs really colors your tone. You could do better.
Any chance you could build a pair of TL606 cabs? Each would weigh about 45 lbs and be more portable than a 610. I believe they would out perform other cabs as well (more sound per pound, and likely per watt too!).
Barefaced cabs (115 or 215) would be the next best, but more expensive. Orange also has a cab founded upon the TL606, and may be another good choice.
I know there isn't much love for 15s here, but the advantages are numerous over other speaker cab types. 4x10s are typically heavy... 6x10s even more so. I have a 2x15 cab that is sealed, light weight, and small, and gets louder than I've ever needed (2 Eminence 3015), and as loud if not louder than the TL606, but not as deep at freqs under 80hz. It's worth thinking about...

I would never take an awesome Ampeg tube amp and pair it up with some crappy budget cab. I like some Hartke stuff but IMHO the VX series is bottom of the line stuff. Not familiar with the Kustom, but the last thing I'd ever cheap out on is the cab, especially with a V4B. Cheap bass + cheap amp + good cab can be really good, but you can have the best bass and head in the world, and if you run it through a cheap cab, it will always sound cheap.
Thank you for your advice. I completely agree with you as regards V4B as well as Hartke VX. Would you eecommend me to go with 2 x 210 AV, which would remain at a decent price?
The 210av is one of my favorite cabs. It's a budget cab but it's a good budget cab.
