So today I checked out a used Peavey Grind 6-string, as I'm on the market for a 6-string. So I play it, and it plays beautiful, one of the nicest 6-string basses I've played. The price is $350. Seems like a good price, but there are cracks on the back of the headstock near the tuner's mounting screw holes. They don't seem to be too bad. Is that a lot to worry about? Is it worth it to spend $350 on it, with these cracks? How much would it cost to repair this?

Thanks for the reply. Would it be worth trying to get them to drop the price down a little? If so, at least how much should I try to get it down to? And how much would it cost to get repaired? It's cracks where the some of the tuner's screws on the back are. If not, it's a shame, it's such a beautiful and great playing instrument.

It sounds like your problem is just that some overtightened tuning screws caused some cracks. If so, it can be fixed with just a little CA glue to fill in the cracks.

Can you post pictures?

Also, tell him that you'll give him $300 cash. If he tries to argue, tell him it's because you need the other $50 to take it to a tech to fix up.

Yeah I was thinking it was probably from overtightened screws. I'm going to check it out later this week, maybe I'll get pictures and post them up here. Some of them look like finish cracks, but there was one that was definitely a wood crack. I'm afraid if I do get the bass, the cracks will get bigger, and it will turn into a big mess. But, If this doesn't work out, I've got my eye on a Ibanez SR506.
