college,trade,whatever.....learn a skill that people will pay you do outside of music, just in case you are not the next big thing....Alright, so I'm seventeen years old and am a junior and highschool and I'm faced with a delema; should I go to college directly after high school? And my reasoning for asking is this:
More than anything, I want to move into NYC and form a band, and gig a ton, and take a real shot at "making it". I would think that school would get in the way of that. Plus I can go to college once I realize that scraping enough money to hardly get by isn't gunna cut it if it doesn't work out.
What do you guys think?
Not necessarily cheaper, but Austin has a great University. Portland would also bs a good choice. Regardless where you go, go to college.

College is a great place to network with other musicians. Some schools are notorious for their network of musicians. That networking will help you with gigs and all kinds of other work.
Bands come and go. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, so they say.
Check out NYC street musicians and ask yourself, "Why are these cats playing in the streets and subway stations, collecting quarters?"
I'm not kidding or insulting the OP. I'm just talking about the reality.
