Should I keep the Flats?

So here's my rant.

I have a nice set of Chromes on my MIA P Bass, they sound great. Now, I know what you're thinking "Then keep them, stupid.", but I'm missing something!

I'm finding that my flat's aren't exactly.. Versatile. See, they're perfect for when I play in church, nice smooth, warm sounding.. But when I'm jamming with my buddies, I'm lacking that P Bass growl and aggressivenes.

Are there some kind of "Wonder Strings" that I'm missing out on? Something that can give me a balance of, warmth, smoothness, with a touch of growl and punch?

Help?..

Check out the VT bass pedal by Tech 21. It can brighten those flats the right way for more aggressive styles.

That would be Ideal yes, But I just can't afford that right now.

I agree - half-rounds are a good compromise that keeps the flats feel but are brighter than the flats. I use them on my fretless exactly for that reason.

Try RotoSound flats, they are quite a bit brighter than chromes. If they get too bright just roll back the tone and they sound sweet.
