Should I?

Well, I'm about to do something, and I'm wondering if I should before I do. I play in an 80s inspired rock 'n roll band, and the style (instrumental - not vocal) is very much like Steel Panther or Hot Leg.

I'm wondering if I should switch basses/strings/etc (I'm about to switch the strings on my L-2000 to Nickel rounds) I've been using the L-2000 with D'addario Chromes on a high bass/normal mid/low treble amp setting (Top pickup, Bass boost, active), and I'm thinking I need a different sound out of my bass. I'd like something that would help me cut through a bit more, and I'm not sure if I should be switching basses, strings, settings, etc...

Sounds like you need more mids on your amp settings if you're having trouble cutting through. You could always try the rounds instead of the flats but my guess is that it's your amp settings. From what I've read on here, the L-2000's tend to be bass heavy anyway, so cutting back on the bass and upping the mids might be what you're looking for.

On my car I can't decide whether to change the oil, or the engine. I would try boosting mids, as stated above, or new strings. I would change basses last in that order.

Drop the Bass Boost, flatten out the EQ then boost the mids, and try different pup combinations, starting with both wide open in parallel--try to capture more real tone instead of adding it back in with bass boosting. All that bottom end is also sucking up the headroom in your amp, so by rolling that back, you'll probably be able to get more/better volume out of it.
