I personally hate Ric's. I want to like them, but they never feel right to me and I don't get on well with the sound. Warwicks, on the other hand, I absolutely love! So what should you do? Trade your Thumb 5 for my Streamer LX!! 
Seriously, though, if you're not enjoying the Thumb, I wouldn't blame you for trying something new. I would obviously suggest trying a Ric out first, but both Thumbs and Ric's aren't too difficult to find buyers/traders, so at least it should be easy to make swaps.

Fishing for wisdom here? I don't think you'll find much... not all Warwicks nor Rics are created equal so it's pretty much impossible to say whether or not you'd be making the right choice, especially for those of us who are biased about either instrument already.

I have a Corvette $$ 5 too......the tone of that is more "my thing". The neck pickup in series....bass boosted a little.
The thumb sounds great, but part of my thing is an element of that P tone. The thumb is really tight and growly....but light in the portion of the mids I crave.
The Thumb for me....is an auxiliary instrument.....
I only play it at home while I'm playing alone.

Totally enjoy the Thumb for what it is.....just don't need it.
Never played a Ric....so who knows!
The value of a nice Ric and the Thumb are similar.....that's most of the reason I'm considering it.

^More reason to do so, if you already acquired it through some sort of a trade deal, I'd count it as a bass you don't have much to lose losing.

there are so many flavors available go try something else for sure, especially if what you have isn't doing it for you. Sometimes you'll find that when you try something else what you had was just fine after all!

Moving to a 4 string? 5 string Rics are rare and more than one person has told me that they aren't that good compared to the 4 string versions.trade my Warwick Thumb NT 5 for something else? A Ric?
Doesn't sound like a Rick bass will fit in with your current stable, but if you're looking for 'different', then it could be right for you.
The new 4003 has much more of a throaty mid presence than the older 4001.
I'd recommend trying one out if possible, but you shouldn't lose out on a trade if you find it's not a good fit.

I would.
But then again... I really do not like warwicks(and wouldn't have one to trade in the first place).
But a Ric?
All the ones I have seen were built quite badly,and really expensive.
Still; rather a Ric than a Warwick I'd say.

in the last 18 years or so that was quite a few.
It's mostly in the details,finish and the workability of the trussrod -i have seen too many broken ones to wanna risk it.
However if I was gonna go for a cool vibe bass and money was o object ,a Ric might end up on my list of things to get.
There is a shortscale one pickup rick I have seen only once.
That thing I'd get in a heartbeat.
I don't even know what it was about it.
