But I also think that if you are considering joining the military because you can't think of anything better to do then you shouldn't join. I am not at all patriotic towards mine or anyone elses country, but I would have thought that you would be better off joining the military because the lifestyle attracts you, or you want to 'defend your country', or because of a better reason than 'I'm bored and I can't decide what to do'.

Anybody who joins the military is a hero to me. I know people, friends and family, who have done very very well with all kinds of situations, running the gamut from Naval Academy Grad to Marine Corp grunt to high ranking Army NCO. It is a lifestyle all its own and many people thrive in the military. Many people get burned out or hurt by it also.

Its not so much that I can't think of anything better to do... I kind of feel like I need to get my ass kicked for a few years. I feel like I need some straightening out. My parents yelling at me just doesn't cut it anymore, ya know?


My cousin just enlisted. Now I really wanna go. :bassist:

Mike - Your reasons for wanting to join are as good as anyone's. As long as you understand that if you join it's a committment that you must live up to. I say go for it. I joined for reasons much like yours and stayed 26 years. I can't imagine a choice that would have been better for me.
