Should you oil strings?

Not sure what all the complaining's about. Everyone knows all the good bassists use bacon grease on their strings.

In my opinion one shouldn't add mass to strings. The oil will creep between windings and core. It won't be spread evenly over the length, causing possible tonal errors. I don't think the fretboard will be happy with the oil as well.

Orange peel makes your fingers nice and grippy. I found it out by accident eating an orange while practicing...

I use Almond Oil every time I play my upright...

Never tried it with my electric basses though...
