Shoulder Surgery Today

As the title says, I'm going in for shoulder surgery today.

Last May I fell on it and tore all the ligaments in my left shoulder.

Today's the day I get them replaced. Let's see how it goes.

And now, back to our regular programming...

Thanks, everybody! I just got home. All went well! The doc said I was in bad shape
when he opened me up, but he fixed it up nice a good! I'm not in all that much pain and
should be back to playing bass withing a week or two (sitting. Not with the bass on my shoulder)
and by the 3rd week I should be able to play no problem! Hope so!

Great news! Glad it worked out. Just follow through on your rehab and you should be golden.

In case anyone was wondering:

It's been two weeks. I'm doing well! Full range of motion but I do have a lot of soreness and some discomfort,
mainly because I over-do it a bit at work. The Doc explained that for the 8 months prior to surgery, my shoulder
muscles were not engaging properly, so they are now being exercised again, thus the soreness.
I just need to take it a bit easy.

Here's a pic of the scar a week after surgery, with the stitches still in. Very big, wide tall.
Looks pretty nasty. The Doc assured me that it would be a lot smaller when he took the stitches out.
That was hard for me to fathom:

Here's a pic the day after the stitches were removed (two weeks after surgery). Wow! I can't believe the difference.
It still needs time to settle down. I'm also supposed to put some anti-scarring cream on it. I'm amazed at the difference:

Glad it went well. I've dealt with some shoulder issues that didn't require surgery, and it's no fun not being able to play. Hope you get back to playing in good time.

My understanding is that scars like that will fade in color in about a year.

Thanks. I appreciate the well wishes.
I actually was able to play my electric bass (in a seated position, without using a strap) on the 2nd or 3rd day after the operation.
After a week, I could play my electric upright bass, for short stretches, at least
and yesterday, 2 weeks after surgery, I played my electric in a standing position with it hanging off the strap!

After about an hour my shoulder was sore and tired, but no biggie. The doc said within the next 2 weeks I'll be ready for anything,
and about 5 more months overall for me to be up to 100% strength.

All in all, good stuff!
