Harley Benton PB-50 with Peavey Super Ferrite pickup and TI jazz flats. Those 2 items cost 1.5 times what the bass did 
It plays and sounds fantastic,pictured here with it's stock brother on the left.The original Wilkinson pickup has a high output that really goes great with the nylon tapes ( Status Hot Wire discontinued

I went the other way on one of these Zodiac DE Scorpios. Seymour Duncan Basslines got swapped for Alan Entwistle Neos, the Entwistles were way too powerful for the Rotosound Nexus strings. Sound great with the Basslines but too bright and harsh with the Neos, again pairing of high output pickups and flats (Fender this time) worked a treat.

meanwhile I'm here waiting on my first cheap ass bass to arriveI did the same thing with one of my guitars, bought it used, came with some gibson pickups around 120€ that I didn't like very much so I just replaced with some dimarzios that were half the price
Hey fellas. A bass can be great regardless the price, I like a single coil P-bass strung with flats and use a foam mute.

Sweet !! We don't get SX over here in Scotland :-( They are well thought of on TB. Years back folks would buy them and plan loads of mods. Kinda like " I bought a Squier and swapped tuners,neck,pickups,bridge" deal.
These days it's mostly " I bought an SX. I changed the strings ! " Folks love them stock.
I'll be keeping an eye out for your NBD when that baby arrives. Congratulations

No kidding! My collection recently hit 15, so I was thinking I should pare it down. But I counted 33 in that one shot!
And my daughter plays bass, so technically some of them are hers....only 18 more to go
2011 Schecter Stiletto Studio 5. Not exactly cheap (ie. >$500,< $1000). Last one I did any modifying to. Natural finish, awesome bridge and no pick guard left little room for variation. So, knobs it was. Skulls are from Musicians Friend. The wood knobs are custom order.
