2007 Fender Tony Franklin

With Seymour Duncan QuarterPounder SBP-3 pickup, J pickup and switchblade removed, DR HiBeam (pianosounding) strings 50-70-90-110.

This ain't your mellow fretless bass...
it's an agressive monster.

I highly recommend the Tony Franklin... or if you can find a nice vintage one. Keep in mind the Tony Franklins is actually based on Tony's first '70s Fender Precision.

I play for 10 year now, last 8 years exclusively fretless... and a fretless precision is the best fretless I ever played when it come to tone and comfort.


And it's the coolest oxymoron there is.

The Tony Franklin is expensive.

But to me it was worth it. I don't regret shilling out that much (1700€ around here) since I love that bass so much. It's my main player... not something I rarely pick up so to me that bass makes sense.


I was also thinking of doing a project myself... a budget fretless precision bass.

Maybe buying a MIM P that hangs on the wall of my local store and defret it.

Or buy another Squier Classic Vibe 50s precision, the only fretted bass that I really love, and defret it.
I don't know if a defretted maple fingerboard will work very well.

This is my Carvin B5 Fretless. It features a mahogany body, maple neck and ebony fretboard. It's active/passive, and the humbucker can be tapped. It has a sweet tone and I love the versatility.
