Show Us Your Costumed Gigs!

With Hallowe'en drawing near, I hope several of us have costumed gigs on the way, and I hope you'll share them here. I do not have a Hallowe'en show planned this year, but I do have the good fortune to participate in a costumed gig every year in August in my day job of all things, where we celebrate the contributions of our state park district's volunteers with a musical in which amazing volunteers always save the day. I have sung in every show for years, but have also gotten to play bass in the last two:

2019: the studly Ranger Merman, with muscle suit and trident Mikro for maximum merman studliness

2018: My only heel turn to date, the Psycho Steller's Jay coveting the egg of the endangered marbled murrelet, about to cover a reworded version of "Psycho Killer," with pointy raven-esque bass for maximum eeeeevil

Let's see those costumed gigs!

No gig, but my seniors uke group, 50 strong, meets twice a week to rehearse, Thursday mornings, so it falls on Halloween and we're supposed to costume up. I found a costume online and I'm going to copy it. This is a mockup of me. It's going to be made of cardboard with self stick wood shelf paper. I thought of doing a bass, but my first entry to the group was with ukulele, later with bass uke.

The last band I was in...Prince and The Revolution tribute. Unfortunately, even with really good money, disagreements made me feel the need to leave.

Talk about commitment to a bit! I found that residue from the goop I used to get my hair, eyebrows, and beard green interfered with my playing a bit, but I don't think I've even tried to play with gloves on. How'd it go?

That was actually a thin,stretchy full-body-cover suit. I play with a pick most of the time, so it wasn't so bad. I lucked out with this costume in that there was no makeup goo involved.

You're in! Nicely done. How'd you dress up the bass? I presume it doesn't always look like that.

Thanks! It's got about twenty dollars worth of electrical tape and vinyl on it. At first I just did the white and red stripes, as the bas was already a weird shade of blue. but then I got the idea to get some glitter vinyl. Truthfully, I'll probably leave it this way. It actually looks better than it did.

One thing that project taught me was that I'll probably not ever get one of those vinyl wraps for a bass. Getting the stuff I used to conform to curves was difficult.

Coincidentally, our first time playing in front of people with the debut of our current (2nd) singer was on 10/31/14(?) at a house party (mine )

No action shots that I know of, just this one taken after we played. Our LG had to ditch his big ol sombrero for the photo of our noggins all crammed together. That's me in the back with the cat ears on >

I love Halloween My ex wife and I got married on Halloween in Las Vegas. Our house always gets decked out, and it seems there's almost always a lot of things to do every year in late October.

Did a DEVO tribute set for charity a few months back. I don't have stills from it but we all dressed up in hazmat suits and sunglasses:


This weekend I'm doing an annual "Dead Rock Stars" Halloween event at a local club. Seventeen bands playing music from people who have passed on. My band is playing five songs; two of them say they're wearing costumes and I suppose I'll have to put on an Amy Winehouse wig, some fake tattoos and eyeliner. It will not be an ambitious costume but at least I will look like I made half an effort.
