Sounds great (even though it's not direct) with lots of sustaaaaaaaaain!
I had my 2nd gig with my Elfin semi-hollow. Lots of compliments on my tone last night! I am very happy with my bass! I saw this bass he recently finished on Facebook. Don't know who it belongs to, but I really love the artistry and details in this one.
Picked up my bass from Martin a week and a half ago.....a dream come true.
Not yet. Still trying to figure out what strings I want on it. The LaBella black nylon strings are nice, but I may try some flat wounds and nickel wounds as well.
Ok....here is a clip of my Martin Keith acoustic 6 string with nickel round wounds and then with TI flat wounds. I like both, but I like the TI's more right now. Going to keep the flats on for now and see how they sound with different groups. Going to use this bass for most everything, so it should be getting a great workout.

This is a Show thread, so I'm showing (again). My Elfin Plus has a pearl red finish. In regular light it's muted compared to candy apple, but in stage light it glows, a different visual effect than the candy colors.

Thanks guys! Very excited. I sent an email this morning to Martin to confirm the nut/bridge spacing and got a great detailed reply which turned into a nice dialogue today (on Sunday!). I believe this listing said body core is mahogany. Here is the rest from MK:
This bass has my usual specs for a 5-string: 3/4" (aka .750" or 19mm) spacing at the bridge, and a 1.86" nut width. If I recall correctly, the weight is 7lbs 11oz, quite light for a 5-string.
A few other notes on this instrument: the neck is built in the style of my acoustic instruments - a maple outer layer with a carbon fiber internal shell and a basswood core. This creates an extremely stiff and stable neck that is also lighter weight than a traditional maple neck. This is a pretty costly upgrade from the standard base price, and it makes for a nice, light and well-balanced instrument with a strong and clear low end.
Also - the preamp on this bass is actually a 2-channel unit - there is a blend control tucked away in the control cavity. So, should you ever want to add a bridge pickup, all that's required is to add a route and pickup, and the wiring will accommodate the 2nd pickup without any further modification.
Other than that, the only real difference from my usual specs is the satin finish. I remember this bass well and was very pleased with how it came out...it is a very big and powerful-sounding bass with plenty of versatility. The original owner went on to order another instrument from me, and only sold this because he moved away from playing 5-string.

I have been ogling that bass on Reverb all week! I may order a 6 string version
