My bad. I thought you had a custom S4 in the works and that it would supplant your old D4. -1 for me :confused:

My new Deep 4 is a bit late, but I think every bass Rob's done for me has taken a touch longer because of not only what he's got on his plate, but because I don't do stock stuff lol

I'm hoping to use the new one on two of the last three tunes for my new recording. My current Deep 4 is on it already, so it'll be an interesting comparison.

I'm on my fourth bass from Rob and all have taken longer than initially projected. Three out of four have been custom but my first, a stock Solid 4, probably took the longest. Not meant as a complaint, just the way it is.

When I spoke to Rob in March regarding my new bass, my most customized to date, he felt it would be done in fairly short order, 3-5 months, which surprised me. I inferred that his workload at that time was pretty manageable. Since then I can see that the schedule is slipping which is why I assume his workload has picked up.

I learned long ago not to stress over build time, it will be ready when it's ready and it will be well worth the wait. I normally don't even ask for schedules on any custom gear, the only reason I asked Rob for a guesstimate this time was so I could plan my "accumulation of funds" in the coming months :smug:

Well, this is #3 for me. Both the D4 and S4 were Rob's first ones off the line for those, so part of the delays in those were just flat out R&D and figuring things out. Rob's always delivered exactly what you ask for, and I agree, worth the wait. I'm not selling my current D4 just yet until I get the new one in my hands, but it will definitely be used to help fund its replacement.

I've got a fretted Deep 4 on order. Rob Allen said it would be done early August. That's about a four month build. Which surprised me as my MB2 took more time and that was pretty much stock. I wouldn't be surprised if the Deep does take longer than Rob's estimation.
But to be honest I don't mind how long it takes. I've taken a while getting the money together to finance the Deep (selling other basses) and waiting a bit longer doesn't worry me at all. And, as has been pointed out, they're worth the wait as the workmanship is just outstanding.
Anyway I've got a photo of the Koa top to drool over in the mean time.

Rob does great work. I have flipped a bunch of basses over the past year, but the Deep5 and MB-2 are keepers. They just slay me every time I play them. Part of the problem is the bar is so high none of my fretted "regular" basses measure up :p

It's fretless unlined (instead of lined) and 34" scale (not 35") this time. However, if memory serves me correctly, you only have the mag, not the piezo. Mine will have both with different sets of control knobs and two different output jacks.
