It’s a Khan Audio SVDI tube direct box.

KHAN DI

Adds a little warmth and roundness to the tone and really sweetens up the top end - at least to my ears.

Khan built the original, and long ago discontinued, Ampeg-branded SVT DI. The rumor is the Khan box is built with some better components than the old SVT DI, as he had to build that box with a budget/price point dictated by Ampeg. Not sure if that, but the Khan SVDI sure sounds great to me!

Edit to my previous post: I bought a small stand w/ adjustable height so I could position the SGT-DI where I needed it to make any dial changes while recording. This allows for full tuner access as well. Headed to the studio next week to record w/ the SGT-DI for the 1st time and can't wait.

This is on my list of things to potentially buy. Is anyone having issues running modulation into it? I have chorus and reverb and wonder if it'll sound bad in front of the SGT.

I run an envelope filter pretty frequently through it and it sounds fantastic. Can't speak to chorus/verb/etc. though.

I’d love to show you my SGT-DI, but I’ve been patiently waiting for a month and it still hasn’t arrived yet! Nobody has them in stock over here so I just have to be patient. But I’m really itching to get my greedy little mitts on it.

My current setup is fairly simple.

Bass > Ampeg SVT-DI > Ampeg SGT-DI > Ampeg SVT-300

Basically using the tube DI for warmth and a slight db bump before it goes to the SGT. I balance the level of the Ampeg tube amp so that I get grit from the preamp and overdrive from the power amp section when pushed..

The only reason im not getting one is because it doesnt have an effects loop
