Now I’m pondering a new pedalboard with an Ampeg SGT-DI to replace a Broughton Fliptop and a Menatone King of the Britains. I see a classified sale coming up to offset costs.

I've been wanting to hear about a direct comparison between a Fliptop and this SGT-DI. I use a Fliptop and a Khan DI to get an Ampeg tone.

I’ve had one now for a few weeks. I’d post an audio clip if I could. There is a discernible difference without weakening the signal chain with the Ampeg pedal. Not so with the Broughton Fliptop. It’s minor, but it’s there. In sum, I prefer the SGT-DI.

Parts bass. I bought the G&L neck years ago from G&L for $35 plus shipping. Lightweight body from a cheap Silvertone P. Wilde P46 pickup. I had a Delano in it but like the P46 better. Wilkinson bridge and an Artec MT-3 three band preamp. Hipshot lightweight tuners. It’s a great bass.

I'm new to bass (guitar player) and I'm very interested in an SGT-DI based off of what I've heard and read. Is there a decent practice amp that I could run this into that anyone would recommend? I'm still trying to wrap my head around preamps in general. I left stomp boxes behind long ago in favor or amp/cab modelers, hence the appeal. I guess my basic question is, what are y'all running this thing into?

at home I take the DI into a headphone amp. (Because I want to dial in the DI sound)

Otherwise the amp out goes to the quilter currently and the DI goes to FOH.

I’ve run mine through an Ampeg PF-50T and a Mesa Boogie D-350. Both into a Mesa SW210. Same results. Pure B-15 and SVT tones. I don’t have another cab to try it with.

The quilter is underneath an in-ears mixer and the SGTDI has. 90 degree xlr elbow so I can send to FOH or recording etc.

When I run into my interface and DAW, I use the SGT’s DI, pre-amp, cab sim, and compressor. When running into my amp, I go line-out through the spectracomp and use the amp’s preamp for tone shaping.

This is on my list of things to potentially buy. Is anyone having issues running modulation into it? I have chorus and reverb and wonder if it'll sound bad in front of the SGT.

I use chorus and flanger before the SGT and it sounds fine.
