It's fascinating that almost twenty years ago I was sitting in my bedroom with my little Zoom bass fx processor making all kinds of noises similar to what I'm hearing in dubstep on my jazz bass and I remember thinking, "that sounds cool but it will NEVER sound right in a musical context because a bass is supposed to sound like a bass". If only...

That is a very powerful statement. Anything is possible, in the appropriate context. If you honestly think something is good, but outside the box don't be afraid to step out

God those "hot hands" do not appeal to me at all...I mean it's cool that you can change the sound like that but you're not even playing your bass, you're shaking your hand in its general direction. I want to pluck the strings and feel it. Another case where you'd be better off playing a keyboard and using the knobs to mess with the filter.

That is not the same at all. With effects, you're still plucking the strings, you still get the tactile sensations, you still control the dynamics with your fingers. With the hot hands thing your right hand isn't even touching the strings...at that point there is no point in playing the bass guitar...you're just clinging to the bass guitar when you really should be playing a keyboard.

I'm interested in new sounds so dubstep influenced tones are very interesting to me. A lot of fun to play with for sure. I just threw out my old pedal board set up and amp at the start of a steep learning curve but having a ball. The set up looks ugly since nothing is stuck to the board yet.

Running Eventide PitchFactor > SansAmp Bass DI > Eventide Pitchfactor > Eventide TimeFactor > BOSS Looper.

Here's a Soundcloud file using the pedals but no Dubstep sounds. All sounds other than the drum loop are on the bass.

This was my old dubstep board, before parts got stolen or sold . . .

wooly mamoth > dunlop bass wah > digitech whammy > snarling dogs mold spore > dunlop tremelo pedal (the one in the wah housing so you can speed up and slow the trem > Dod FX 25 envelope > Digitech bass synth wah > Mutron III > Maestro stage phaser (foot modulatable speed and intensity) > mxr flanger > boss chorus 2 > boss space echo pedal > boss looper
