they had UBER skinny string spacing and were not very easy to play....that is why they did not stick around long....

Mine is an '86 4003S/5. It's been a case queen for over 20 years.

And the string spacing is hideous but I've adjusted to it quite a bit. So much so that it seems foreign to pick up a 4 stringer. And I can't play with a pick so that has made it worse for me.
