I'm particularly interested to see if anyone has traditional J's (pickguard/control plate) with ramps installed.

How are those normally attached - glued, wedged in? I plan to get an Ibanez SR500 soon. Is there someone out there who makes custom ramps? I'm sure I could come up with something, but am not sure how well it would match color-wise.

They keep your plucking finger from going too far past the string as you pluck, very similar to playing over the pickup.

How are those normally attached - glued, wedged in? I plan to get an Ibanez SR500 soon. Is there someone out there who makes custom ramps? I'm sure I could come up with something, but am not sure how well it would match color-wise.

All of mine are held in place with double-sided tape. I've seen them permanently attached with screws or glue. I've even seen them pressure fit between two pickups.

Matching, contrasting, black... it's up to you.

that has got to be one of the sickest basses I have ever seen... how does it play and sound?

Yes. This also allows you a more consistent attack because each plucking finger goes down the same depth. This helps a lot when using multifinger plucking where consistency is a concern.

Do you ever regret having the ramp in place?

It's the best thing I've ever done to my basses. The double-stick tape is completely non-marring as well (so long as you remove some of its tack first), so they're easily removable. I'd only regret it if I attached it in some sort of permanent fashion like glue or screws- not everyone wants or needs a ramp, so that would needlessly affect resale value.
