More darkness and cooler temps means more Patti snuggles.
Patti snuggle 11 23.jpg

Early this afternoon, she got a hold of a pork chop bone in the leaves, chewed and swallowed it before my wife could get it from her. (At least she was able to grab a larger second one from her.) This is the second time we've found pork chop scraps in our back yard since we moved in 18 months ago. We have no idea how this happens, all the trash bins in the neighborhood are issued by the city and are five feet high with attached lids. Maybe in each case a bird dropped it from elsewhere.

We're keeping a close eye on her; based on online guidance we gave her liquids and bread to try to minimize the impact of the bone. She's not showing any signs of discomfort so far, but they say to monitor for 72 hours to be sure.

I just read an article on Huffington Post that the worst treat to give a dog is a bone or any really hard chew. They can break their teeth on them, causing severe dental problems. I wish I'd known that before giving my guys those little antler pieces to chew on. All three have lost teeth. Bad dad. :rollno:

I'm sure they totally enjoyed the experience. For reference, here's the article I referred to.

This Common And Beloved Dog Treat Can Destroy Your Pet's Teeth

Thanks for the article. After reading "Dental fractures tend to affect larger dogs more, because they are "power chewers," Greenstein said. (Plus, adding insult to injury, owners of larger dogs may be more likely to give their pets tough bones to keep them occupied.) Fractures are also more common in dogs with existing dental disease, which weakens teeth and makes it easier for them to crack off, Greenstein added."

I tend to think it's not only the size but also the breed.
Our keeshonden had a much better set of teeth, stronger jaws and stomach than the Jack Russel, that followed them up.
