Two years is an awful long time in a shelter.
I took in a foster who had been at the Austin Animal Shelter for 360 days.
After five months at my house with Loki teaching him all the good stuff, we found Billy Boy a really nice family who took him to their expensive home in Dallas where they gave him a life every dog should be so lucky to have.
Billy was brindle like Loki but he was more physically beautiful in every way, ...what a specimen.
It's hard not to keep every foster forever.
These days it's only one dog in the the home at a time so Momo will be the center of attention for years to come.
Big fan of an old dog to teach and a young dog to learn. Hadn't trained a dog in decades. Sadly my last young dog go sick and died when the old dog was to old for a puppy.
So now I got to start the cycle again. Won't lie. Largely been fun with a few frustrations. Little Bugsy is enjoying the only dog attention. Expect he'll like the old dog in the inner sanctum treatment a lot more though.
I'm just getting too old to have to tend to more than one Pitbull.
I am not as disciplined with Momo as I was in the past, but he is more challenging than a number of dogs I've had here.
Loki was easy as pie and made me look like a great trainer, and he helped so much with our guests that my job helping those dogs was much easier because he was just so stable and well behaved that his good habits rubbed off easily on the newbies when they came to live with us.
Momo came from the Austin Animal Shelter and he had been admitted as an injured stray who had been attacked by a dog or dogs and had also maybe been hit by a car.
He was also probably mistreated by a large man, he has various little fear issues that are hard to figure out, but he is very friendly and cute and acts like an older puppy or young adult dog. Fear issues are the hardest to overcome but he is doing well and is hilarious and cute and it feels like we have a toddler in the house so he has made me fall in love with him. I really enjoy the toddler like enthusiasm he wakes me up with every morning, it sure makes starting my day pretty nice.

He's certainly not looking happy...thats for sure.
My fella "Duffy" hates being groomed. My wife has to clip him in stages, all the time being plied with treats. She has great patience with him.
When I was growing up, my younger brother got a Black Lab mix for his eighth birthday, and we named him Chooch.
Typical over the top fetching Labrador. We were dumb enough as kids to throw rocks and he started fetching them and he decided rocks were his item of choice.
If you threw one in the water, he would dive down to the bottom and come up with....the same rock! He was able to go down about ten feet and fetch his rock.
He eventually got in the habit of carrying around a rock in his mouth almost all the time, large and small alike.
If a rock was not available a brick or piece of cinder block would suffice if he found one.
He was un-neutered because we were dumb in those days, and our family did not pay too much attention to leash laws because un-neutered males really, really want to roam free to visit the lady dogs, and six kids was a lot for our Mom to keep track of, much less watch the dog all the time.
By the time he was over ten years old his teeth were filed flat like human molars.
Sometimes he didn't look like he had a rock in his mouth, and you would check him out and he would have a little stone in his mouth between his cheek and gums like a little packet of chewing tobacco.
He lived to be fifteen years old and had a great life but he had nothing but nubs for teeth by the time he died.
It seems Labs can be a little over the top sometimes.
