This thread has a ton of great dog pics, but I just LOVE this one. Aside from the perfection of the two faces, there are documented psychological and immune system benefits for adults and children who live with dogs (OK, and other pets, too). If you're interested in that aspect, here's a short article.

That's funny because kayaks are a huge thing here. Our family place is on Lake Superior which is obviously huge. Sailboats out on the big water and kayaks everywhere else in our area. Never heard anyone having fears of drowning. And canoes are kind of a forgotten item now, it's plastic boats everywhere you look.
I attended the Minnesota Outward Bound school in the summer of '68. One day, just before setting off for the Canadian boundary waters, we bussed to a state park on the north shore of Lake Superior not too far from Duluth. There was a long spit of land sticking out into the lake with calmer water along it that we used to paddle our 85 lb. aluminum canoes out into the lake and then cut over into the waves and surf the canoes back into shore. I had the front seat, so I hooked my legs under the seat and leaned out over the front of the canoe to paddle. It was a BLAST! Importantly, we'd built a huge bonfire on the beach, because the water was COLD!
