We got our first German Shepherd when I was a kid. My stepfather bought him from the Buffalo Police Department. He was training for K9 duty. As part of the training, each dog was supposed to run an obstacle course that included going up a ladder, across a bridge, down a ladder, through a tire course, jump over water and return and sit at attention in front of their dog house. Shep (I know, very original name) would run the course and sit in front of his house. But then when the next dogs were running their course, he’d charge out and knock them off the course. He had to go. I’ve never had anything but German Shepherds since then.
