I've always wanted a Telecaster-shaped bass, and I was wondering what a diverse community such as Talkbass has in store for such a beautiful shape...

Oddly enough, I just posted a thread over on TDPRI about using up a tele shaped GUITAR body I had laying around with a short scale neck to make a true tele bass.

Did some quick photoshop mockups with random pictures pulled from google images and it convinced me.

Then I got crazy with dual pickups and with Nordstrand fat stacks:

but have decided to stick with the single pickup.

Tim Anderson over on TDPRI actually DID do such a thing:

With a 30" Fender Music Master Bass neck and a GFS MM pickup. He says the thing growls for days.

Him, not me.

This is my next project after I finish the Univox Hi Flyer I'm working on.

Fred, God that's exactly what I want. If I wait for a darkstar to be in the budget it'll never get built though. I bet that thing thumps.

I've decided to go forward with a cheap MM clone. If I ever expand the budget for a darkstar I can always upgrade.

I love the way ASATs sound. The guy from Chiodos was playing a semi-hollow when I saw them at Warped and he got some sweet tone.

I was worried about that at first, but they turned out great. I love the way it sounds. There were no problems using the guitar pickups.
