Shuker Bass

I am a half-assed bass player and not really too well-informed. A Buddy of mine (with considerable available funds) wants to get a Jon Shuker Bass. Handcrafted in England with exact precision, etc, etc but are they really worth over 2 Grand? i know the Guy from The Stranglers plays them but....who else? Can any experienced players offer advice on Shuker...especially the pickups / electronics. Thanks.

I have a couple, and I like them very much. So much that I'm ordering another. Although 2 grand is not a trivial amount (at least not for me, and I suspect not for you either), IMO the cost of a Shuker is, if anything, actually lower than most basses of comparable quality.

As for the pickups and electronics, Jon will basically use whatever you want (Aguilar, Bartolini, Delano, EMG, etc, etc), much like any other custom maker. It would be up to you to figure out what you want, though I'm sure Jon would have some useful suggestions.

P.S. Last I heard, the wait time would be somewhere in the range of 6-9 months. if that affects your decision at all.

I'm incredibly pleased with my Shuker. Construction and materials are first class, mine has EMG pickups and eq and sounds great. Plays like a dream too!
